Just like many of you, I was born at St. James hospital in Hornell, NY. (My family is originally from Bath, New York). My parents were anxiously awaiting my arrival so that our journey as an Air Force family could begin! My first experience traveling long distance started when I was two months old. I have lived in many states and one country. In the first sixteen years of my life we moved nine times. I lived in Kansas, Michigan, Spain, Lousianna, North Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota and New York (only when my father was overseas). Moving around was very difficult but I would not change any of it. One advantage of being an Air Force brat is getting to meet all kinds of people and living in different parts of the world. The disadvantage of moving around is you have to always be ready to make new friends and say good-bye to your old ones. By the time I was 15 years old my father had become an Air Force recruiter and he was able to work out of Elmira and Hornell. I was able to graduate from Bath Central School.
After I graduated from high school I worked in a bookstore selling newspapers, books and bus tickets in Bath. I met Mr. Smith and got married . We had two sons and then we both decided that we wanted to become teachers! Mr. Smith teaches 4th grade in Avoca Central School. We also adopted two more boys six years ago. I also have a daughter-in-law, granddaughter and two grandsons. We have lived in Avoca now for thirty years.
