Mr. Kanaley

DURING COVID-19 EXTENDED BREAK:

First of all let me say how happy I am that, by all reports, we are all safe and healthy in this confusing and scary time.  Your number one goal in these coming unexpected weeks off of school is to stay safe and keep in good health.

I am available for questions through the entirety of the break from school, including the previously scheduled Spring Recess, through my email.  Please read the following directions for all my 10th and 12th grade students over the break.

The ELA department has prepared work to keep our students academically engaged without adding undue stress and frustration during a difficult time.  As such, we will hit the pause button on completing the novels we were reading in class.  We’ll finish them together as a class upon our return in April, though students are welcome to finish reading in their time off.

I have added a tab to all of my class OneNotes called “Extended Break” with directions and handouts where you may find the afore-mentioned work.  You will need to Synchronize your OneNotes to make sure that all new material is added.  Remember to also shut down your computers and completely restart them to fully update all software.  A copy of these documents is also attached here, to my teacher page if you wish to download and print a paper copy.  Hard copies are also available for pickup in the main lobby of the high school from 3/17-3/20.

Extended Break Work will involve completing specific tasks laid out on a list of 40 suggestions.  Students will then make regular “journal entries” either in paper copy or in their OneNote to detail what task they accomplished and analyze their thought process and reaction to this new task.  The work will be collected/reviewed upon our return to school, currently scheduled for April 14th.

Greetings!
