Living Sign Project- Donations now being accepted

The Canisteo Greenwood Central School District is pleased to share that it is in the process of replanting it’s “Living Sign” that spells out the name of the town CANISTEO on the hill behind our Elementary/Middle School.

As you know, this sign has been a fixture in the community since 1933.  When the District acquired the land the sign sits on, we promised to take care of the sign forever.  After many years, the trees have started to die and succumb to the elements, disease, and age.  With that, the District has sought out through the public bidding process a contractor to remove and replant the sign enabling it to continue to be a fixture in the community for another eighty years!

Work is currently underway and is expected to be completed by early May of this year.  Many community members have asked how they can support the effort and help become a part of the history of this sign.  Many have donated time, ideas, as well as funds to support this project and to support the continued maintenance of this sign that will be required annually.

If you are interested in donating to this project, all funds would be placed in a special “Trust & Agency” account held by the Canisteo-Greenwood Central School District and would only be used to either offset the costs of this initial project or to be used for future maintenance.  These donations will also be formally and publicly accepted by the Board of Education.  Those that contribute $100 or more and wish to have their name be recognized will have this information placed on a commemorative plaque memorializing this project.  If the donation is in honor or in memory of a loved one, please also make that be known and we will be sure to indicate this on the plaque.  While the District will always accept donations for this cause, those interested in being recognized on the plaque can donate between now and July 1, 2016.

All checks can be made payable to:
